When I fleshtalk about my bodyflesh which brings to mindflesh organismic waves of fleshbeingspirit, my tendency, at least years ago, was to assert mental control over all of me in whatever way possible. Knowing, I was taught, occurs through rumination and cogitation, mental activity, the matter of my body – or any body – abstracted into tidy bits of information that can be arranged and ordered into fathomable categories. On New Year’s Day, I had the privilege of teaching contact improvisation at an event called Sacred Movement, New Beginnings on the beach in Siesta Key, FL, an eight mile long island off the coast of Sarasota. Behold my first ever digital story, the result of a workshop on digital media I attended at University of Richmond. We were asked to write a 350 word narrative about an event that impacted our life. I chose to write about my scoliosis, a condition that affects me daily. I wrote, recorded my voice, gathered pictures from my computer and the web, selected music, and downloaded all into I-Movie for editing. I could have written more, but kept to a word limit and a two and a half minute time constraint.
When invited to read my poetry for the 40th anniversary and new location of Living Arts in Tulsa Oklahoma September 2009, I was in the country only a few weeks from a year working in S. Korea. The artistic director and a committee of artists of various disciplines designed an interactive, inter-participatory, intra-media fluxus style party called Kubos-Tesseract.
